It Is In The Place Of Prayer That The ‘Heavens Open’
- Matthew 21:13 “my house shall be called the house of prayer.’’
- Luke 18:1 “Men ought always to pray, and not to faint’’
- 1 Thessalonians 5:17 “Pray without ceasing’’
The pursuit of wealth and success often makes men ignore the need to pray. A true test of humility is prayer. A man who fails to pray is actually telling God, I am sufficient in myself, in can handle my life without you. Therefore, every time we fail to pray is a manifestation of pride. When we fail to pray, instead of God joining forces with us, He will say, go ahead if you think you can do it alone.
God is calling us to a place of prayer where something happens when we pray. Elijah said ‘’there is a sound of abundance of rain.’’ 1 Kings 18:41. Though Elijah heard the sound, he still had to pray to make it happen. Though God has declared ‘’there shall be showers of blessing’’, we need to pray to bring it down.
Pray at home, pray on the way to work, pray in Church, pray by yourself and pray in groups.
Our day must start and end with prayer. It is in the place of prayer that heavens open. Mark 1:35 says ‘And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.’ Jesus prayed daily. He is the son of God, yet he found necessary to pray. After every miracle, he prayed. Mark 6:46 says ‘And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.’ In crisis, He prayed. At Gethsemane, Mark 14:32, He prayed. On the cross, He prayed. There was no time Jesus did not pray. Whose example would we say we are following if we do not pray?
We must pray, both in understanding and in spirit, letting the spirit use our mouth to pray. Praying for one another. Praying for those we lead and those leading us. Prayer must not stop, it must not be the one to suffer because of the pressures of life.
Colossians 1:3-4,9- 13 : we give thanks to God and the father of our lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints, for this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that you might be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual Understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the LORD unto all pleasing, being faithful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear son:
Paul spoke to the saints and faithful brethren in Christ in Colosse here. The Lord speaks to us with these words, today. Let there be an increase in the spirit of prayer in us.
